Description

The epitome of an English country retreat.
A perfect, Grade II listed, eighteenth-century cottage in the heart of Swerford, one of the Cotswolds' most desirable villages, just five minutes from Soho Farmhouse. This two-bedroom cottage will make a perfect bolthole for a couple or small family. Beautifully restored and designed to the highest standards, it is "turn-key" ready, and is offered fully designer-furnished, if wished.

The cottage offers true Cotswold countryside living, whilst being very close to London: excellent links via the M40 or trains from Banbury are 55 minutes.

Plentiful, easy parking and easy affordable heating.

Swerford
Swerford is an exceptionally pretty and quiet village, situated just minutes from Great Tew and Soho Farmhouse, and only a short drive from the Daylesford Farm Shop.

Swerford is one of the area's best-preserved ironstone villages, with the golden stone typical of its area. The surrounding countryside is a paradise for dog-walkers and ramblers. There are excellent gastropubs, both the Boxing Hare in Swerford itself (winner of Muddy Stilettos Destination Pub of the Year) and the Falkland Arms in Great Tew.

Chipping Norton is only ten minutes by car. Banbury, which has a wider range of amenities and excellent rail services into London (journey-time 55 mins) can be reached in 20 minutes. And Oxford, with its extraordinary wealth of architecture and culture, is 30 minutes.

The cottage
The exterior of this handsome eighteenth-century cottage is little changed from when it was first built. Inside, the property is completely refurbished to a modern standard.

The living room is replete with period features, including magnificent beams. The windows to front and rear are rebated with wooden panels, and leaded lights, and the custom-made front door is particularly attractive.

The galley-style kitchen-diner is practical, smart and easy to manage, with a natural slate floor and the mod cons you'd expect. The dining table looks out over the west-facing front garden, and the room is very light-filled and airy.

Upstairs, there are two fine bedrooms, both with ample light, space and storage. One is a good-sized double bedroom with a built-in wardrobe. The other is a gorgeous twin room with original wooden floor. A simple family bathroom accommodates a roll-top bath, shower and shower.

Outside
Parking is directly in front of the house, on-street and always plentiful.

The house has a small, walled, courtyard-style garden to the rear, catching the east sun and perfect for your morning croissant and coffee. The small front garden faces due west, and is a delightful place to sit out during the evening sun.

The lane is exceptionally quiet and at night there are bright stars and black skies.
