Located 150 metres from Magdalene College Porters Lodge on Castle Hill opposite the Castle Mound. 

Modernised in 2006 with:
    • gas fired central heating
    • A limestone floor on "The Bridge" (the ground floor room)
    • fitted kitchen

And partially again in 2018:
    • The limestone floor in the kitchen was replaced with a porcelain floor (for easier cleaning)
    • The old combination boiler was replaced with new Worcester combination boiler
    • The kitchen and the Captain's Cabin were redecorated
    • A fridge freezer was added to the existing fridge in the kitchen in July 2018
    • In July 2018 a new hand basin was installed in the bathroom with slightly improved plumbing. 

Since 2018
    • The Compass Platform was redecorated in September 2019  
    • Shutters were installed in the Captain's Cabin in March 2020.  
    • A new oven was added in May 2020
    • New chairs for the desks in the Ready Room and Captain's Cabin were added in June 2020, and two more of the same bodacious chairs for the desks on the Bridge and the Compass Platform in November 2020.
     • In May 2021 the bathroom was improved by new tiling around the hand basin and toilet and in July and August 2021 the interior apart from the Compass Platform were redecorated, as was the yard, and the front door re-hung.
     • In March 2022 the lower stairs were repaired and in May 2022 re-recarpeted. A new bannister rope was hung 16-Jun-22 2022 and the tumble drier animal flap (very important!) was re-affixed to the drier vent hole. A new toilet pan is due to be installed in late June 2022 and guide wires for the four roses in the backyard to be affixed.

The property is shared with three other tenants (two, University of Cambridge lady undergraduates, who are moving out in July a third Anglia Ruskin university undergraduate who is moving in in June and a fourth lady artist tenant who is moving out in late October). 

Rent is paid five months in advance (though there is no deposit) with the first five months due to complete the contract and then recurring payments monthly thereafter commencing from the middle of month two with no payments, therefore, at the back end of the term of the contract. For payment 9-12 months in advance there will be a 3% discount.

Owing to the elegant sufficiency of space in the house and in particular the presence of just one bathroom, in other words for the benefit of the other inhabitants, the room is not offered to couples. 

• The Bridge, from 23-Jul-22, (available for GBP 750) is on the ground floor and has its own entrance. It is 3.3 x 3.8 (12.5) square metres and has a cream coloured limestone floor (with Persian rugs). It benefits from a desk, a built in wardrobe and Japanese style (it is low) bed 87.5% of the size of a double bed and so about 15% larger than a single bed.
