About the Academy

The Royal Military Academy at Woolwich was founded in 1741 at the Royal Arsenal. The need for more space led to a move to large new buildings on Woolwich Commonin 1806, where cadets were taught mathematics, fortifications, French,chemistry, drawing and dancing.

Amongthe hundreds of officers who graduated from the academy, probably the best known are Lord Kitchener and General Gordon of Khartoum. In 1945, the academy transferred to Sandhurst to merge with the academy there.

Aftera period of use by the Royal Artillery garrison, in 2008 the academy complex at Woolwich was developed for housing.

It is situated close to Blackheath Village, the world heritage site at Greenwich, several parks and a short bus ride from North Greenwich / O2 Arena. Woolwich Arsenal DLR is a short walk (15 mins) or bus ride away, (8mins) and is perfectly placed to take full advantage of the new up and coming Cross-rail station at Woolwich.

The 122 bus stop is located immediately outside the development (2min walk from flat)download the bus timetable app and you always guarantee to catch it on time. This then takes around 8 mins to Woolwich DLR. Alternatively, you can catch 386 bus from the other side of the development which takes around 10mins journeyinto Woolwich
