Folly Bridge House - one of Oxford’s iconic buildings.
A crenelated Victorian tower standing on an island in the River Thames at the point of the original 900 AD oxen ford, it conjures all the romance of the city. This is the spot where Alice-in-Wonderland was invented by Lewis Carroll. On Folly Bridge, the 13th century philosopher and alchemist Roger Bacon had a tower. From the roof, the River Thames and the dreaming spires of the city spread out before you.
Our 7 self-contained studio apartments (which range in price - here we present the cheapest ensuite studio for bookings over one month. We also have a scale of weekly rates for shorter bookings) have large windows on two sides with river views from both. Only five minutes from the new Westgate Centre, seven minutes walk from the High Street and less to some of the University Colleges, Folly Bridge House lets you be in the epicentre of the city in a moment and yet return to the tranquillity of the river. Set back from the road and with new double glazing, the studios are surprisingly quiet for a city centre location. Bought in 2012 by an academic and a writer/photographer, the house is full of works by modern artists, photographers and ceramicists. Folly Bridge House strives for an Eco and Fairtrade ethos. Services include: linen service, super fast fibre optic broadband and all bills. NB Broadband is included in our pricing. The studios have their own kitchenette with all the elegant necessities for city living, including induction hob and Nespresso coffee machine. The bathrooms are small but have water-softening power showers. Windows on two sides give big views of the historic city and River Thames. A beautiful garden overlooking the river allows guests to relax and watch the boats go past and the university rowing crews at play.
Oxford’s most fashionable riverside restaurant is also situated on Folly Island. It offers a discount to our guests. Across the road is the famous old Head of the River Pub.
Off-street gated parking is available in front of the house by separate negotiation.
