Quayside
Newcastle is known the world over as the North East's cultural and party capital, with its Quayside the perfect place for fine dining, bars, cafes and culture courtesy of The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, The Sage Gateshead, and The Millennium Bridge joining the two banks.
Home to the annual Tall Ships Race every summer, Newcastle Quayside is a thriving and interesting spot.
Newcastle has great shopping and arts facilities, as well as museums and art galleries.
The Theatre Royal is a stunning building with many interesting theatrical productions, ballets, operas and pantomimes at Christmas.
The historical background of Newcastle marks it as one of the most important cities in the UK. Once a Roman garrison town it was the site of a fortress and to this day has parts of Hadrian's Wall still evident through the city centre. Starting from Wallsend, Hadrian's Wall sweeps across the landscape to the west coast.
