A rare opportunity to rent a spacious four-bedroom detached house in Great Brownings designed in 1966 by Michael Pringle of Austin Vernon & Partners, in a beautifully landscaped and peaceful setting.

Upon entering the house there is wonderful double-height wood panelled hallway which features an open-tread staircase leading to the bedrooms upstairs. On the ground floor, to the left of the hall, is a large open plan kitchen-dining room, with access to a small patio. The kitchen is light and bright with plenty of glazing, and is equipped with two undercounter fridges, a dishwasher and a washing maching. The house retains many of the original features, including the kitchen cabinets, and has been carefully restored and sympathetically updated by the owners.

To the right of the hall is a large living room with a separate snug area. Here again there is plenty of natural light with full-height glazing and access to a larger private terrace and garden. The ground floor also benefits from a WC.

Upstairs there are four good-sized bedrooms, each with the original built-in wardrobes. The main bedroom also benefits from an en-suite. The family bathroom is situated off the landing.

The property comes with a private garage, addtionally there is unrestricted residents' parking throughout Great Brownings.

The house is offered unfurnished and in immaculate condition and is available from January 2020. The landlords are keen to find the right long-term tenants for their much loved home, hence the long lead time, however, they are flexible with the move-in date should the right tenant want to move in sooner.

History
The Dulwich Estate covers approximately 1,500 acres in South East London. It is an area well known for its mid-century architecture. Between the World Wars the Dulwich Estate had had difficulty in attracting home buyers into the area, the problem was made worse during the Second World War as many of the old houses on the Estate had been bomb-damaged, or had very short leases. In response to this in 1954 the Dulwich Estate commissioned Russell Vernon of Austin Vernon & Partners to prepare an estate wide development plan. This was approved by the LCC later in 1955 and, shortly afterwards, the Dulwich Estate entered into a development agreement with Wates, the national house builder.

The first scheme was completed in 1956 in Farquhar Road. A further 3,000 homes consisting of ranch bungalows, terraced townhouses, high-rise apartments and mid-century mansions went on to be built in the following twenty years. The schemes. often in woodland settings, successfully incorporate modern Scandinavian architecture and nature.

Great Brownings was completed in 1966 and is an organic scheme designed to integrate with the steep sloping site. The houses are all timber framed because the steep slope prevented easy access for normal heavy building materials, apparently making them the first new timber-framed houses in London since the Great Fire of 1666.
