Acton is a multicultural residential hub, attracting the great and the good away from central and south London in search of larger housing and green space like Gunnersbury Park and Ealing Common on the doorstep. And with no less than seven railways stations and easy access to the M4 corridor and beyond, getting into and out of the capital makes Acton a commuter’s dream.

Acton is home to plenty of green outdoor space, like Acton Park with its sports courts, play centre, bowling green and beautiful wildflower meadow, there is even a space for community art projects. Or head to picturesque Gunnersbury Park, home to over 185 acres of park land, the Gunnersbury Park Museum, boating lake and impressive sports facilities. For those who prefer their fitness indoors, the local leisure centre the Acton Centre and private Hogarth Health Centre boast an excellent range of facilities between them and if vertigo isn’t an issue, flex those arm muscles at The Arch climbing wall.

For the retail fiends, Acton High Street is a bustling sight with something for everyone. You’ll find a quirky selection of independent shops as well as an eclectic mix of florists, butchers, and popular cafés along Churchfield Road. The Oaks Shopping Centre in the heart of Acton has also undergone a massive redevelopment of late and is home to a number of new retail units.

Dining and drinking options in Acton reflect the diverse population who have settled in the area, with Greek, Polish, Lebanese, Japanese and Antipodean options in abundance. Head over to the lovely Laveli Bakery for some of the best baked goods in London, or delight in some delicious pub grub and beers at The Aeronaut. This quirky public house is not only famous for its out-of-this-world craft beer, but for having its own circus with regular acts. Or while away the evening at local haunts such as Vindinista wine bar or the atmospheric 18th century George & Dragon pub, complete with its own brewery, Dragonfly.

Rail: Acton Central and South Acton are on the Overground and trains from either will drop you at Highbury & Islington in about half an hour. Acton main line station has trains to Paddington that take just 10 minutes.

Tube: East Acton, North Acton and West Acton stations are all on the Central Line, with journey times to the West End of about 20 minutes and to the City in half an hour. Acton Town is on the District and Piccadilly Lines, serving the City, Holborn and Victoria.

Bus: Routes 95 (Southall), 260 (White City), 266 (24 hour Brent Cross), 440 (Stonebridge Park) and 487 (Willesdon Junction) all run through Acton.

Road: Ease of access to the M4 means that Bristol is only two hours away and getting to the M25 is simple.

Cycle: TfL has proposed a continuous, segregated cycle superhighway between Acton and Tower Hill.

Getting away: At just 20 minutes to Heathrow Airport by car, or half an hour by public transport, it’s easy to escape by plane.
