Fun facts about the building itself:
Kensington Court was a former electricity generating station built in 1888. A stone plaque over the main entrance is inscribed 'Electric Lighting Station'. The original generating equipment was designed and installed by Colonel Compton, a pioneer in the field. The building was used for this purpose from 1888-1900. Listed for its historical importance as one of the earliest surviving electricity generating stations.
The building is located on the first street in London to have electric street lighting as witnessed by the retrofitted gas lamps still present.
It is the first building to have an electric lift, it's a historic antique much coveted by the manufacturer still in existence today. For this reason, please be careful to close double doors properly after use.
