Well known to architects, the Golden Lane Estate is just north of the Barbican Estate and was designed by the same architects as the Barbican, built beforehand in the late 50s and early 60s. Great Arthur House is the only high rise on the estate, well known for its strange rooftop feature and bold yellow facade. It's a great bit of British modernist architecture and is a Grade II listed building.
Although this is listed as unfurnished, you're welcome to the small sofa and dining table shown in the photos. A sliding wall divides the bedroom and living room. There's quite good storage space with three wardrobes in the bedroom and two large cupboards in the hallway.
The Golden Lane Leisure Centre on the estate has two tennis courts, a pool and a gym and is heavily discounted for residents: about £20 per month, last time I checked.
The entire facade of the building has just been replaced and is now double glazed and well insulated. The bedroom has a dedicated fire escape directly to the corridor with two stairwells, one at each end, both on the outside of the building. The flat has electric underfloor heating and all the usual appliances including a newish dishwasher and washing machine. There's a video entry phone and the building's lifts have recently been replaced.
The neighbourhood is busy during the week, with the Whitecross St food market ideal for lunches, and dead quiet on the weekends. With the Barbican arts centre two minutes walk away, you're spoiled for choice with theatre, music and film.
