There are many different shops along the Royal Mile. The nearest supermarket (Tesco central) on Holyrood Road stocks a good variety of food and groceries. Mini Sainsburys and M&S also within walking distance. There are lots of lovely cafes and restaurants nearby, as well as a fantastic icecream counter 1 min walk.
Many guests have found the apartment to be in a prime location to combine visiting the city sights with fantastic day trips out of the city to Scotland's easily accessible coastline and golf courses, historic St Andrews, the Scottish Highlands, whiskey tours and trips up to Loch Ness to spot 'Nessie'. Waverley train station, Edinburgh bus station, and car hire are all nearby. And at the end of the day you can come back to the comfort of the apartment with its efficient heating, and comfy beds.
