You’ll overlook Viking Bay, a crescent of family-friendly sand complete with beach huts, deckchairs and a handful of bobbing fishing boats.  Up on the promenade, grand Victorian and Georgian buildings crown the white cliffs, independent shops, galleries and cafes line the unspoilt streets and retro gelaterias nestle up to award-winning restaurants.

Around the headlands, you’ll discover seven sandy Blue Flag beaches; head to Joss Bay to learn to surf, or rural Botany Bay to saunter amid towering chalk stacks. Keep on walking or pedalling to join the 25-mile Viking coastal trail.

Just inland, St Peter's village stages award-winning heritage tours, while in town explore Dickens’ haunts of Bleak House and Betsey Trotwood’s home. Hop over to Margate for its emerging arts and vibrant music scene, or to Ramsgate, with its impressive harbour.
